Psychosis and Schizophrenia
Do your surroundings sometimes feel unreal or unfamiliar? Do you see or hear things others don’t acknowledge? Do you feel watched, followed or threatened? The University Psychiatric Clinics (UPK) Basel offer outpatient and inpatient services to support you.
Psychosis alters perception and impairs reality. Individuals may see things that aren’t there, hold false beliefs or show unusual behaviour. This can be distressing for both patients and their loved ones.
Psychotic conditions are classified into those with physical causes and those without. The likelihood of developing schizophrenia is around 1%, with men typically affected earlier, often between puberty and age 30. Early consultation with a doctor is essential for effective treatment.
Our Support
UPK Basel offers a wide range of services for treating psychosis, including outpatient care, inpatient options, specialised consultations and group therapy. We aim to help patients develop coping strategies and improve their quality of life.
Our multidisciplinary teams include specialists in medicine, psychology, psychotherapy, nursing, social care and medical-therapeutic services. Treatments are tailored to each patient and supported by additional therapeutic offerings, which can be found on our German page here.
