Eating Disorders
Are you preoccupied with food or your body image? Do you feel guilty after eating, fear weight gain or struggle to control your eating? Such patterns can significantly affect daily life and cause distress. The University Psychiatric Clinics (UPK) Basel provides diagnosis and treatment for eating disorders.
Compulsive control over weight or calories can be highly distressing. Cycles of uncontrollable bingeing, with or without vomiting can disrupt everyday life. Common eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia and binge-eating disorder. If untreated, they can become chronic and in some cases life-threatening.
Our Support
UPK Basel offers outpatient, day patient and inpatient programmes using highly effective psychotherapies. Our consultation provides thorough assessment to determine the most suitable treatment.
In intensive programmes for severely affected patients, especially those with low body weight, we focus on normalising eating patterns, understanding underlying psychological causes and developing strategies to manage anxiety around food.
Our multidisciplinary teams include specialists in medicine, psychology, psychotherapy, nursing, social care and medical-therapeutic services. Treatments are tailored to each patient and supported by additional therapeutic offerings, which can be found on our German page here.
