Addiction Disorders in Older Adults
Struggling with strong cravings for alcohol or medications? Unable to cope with daily life without these substances? These challenges can affect anyone, but for older adults, targeted diagnosis and treatment tailored to their needs are essential. The University Psychiatric Clinics (UPK) Basel provide specialised support for older individuals through both outpatient and inpatient services.
The Centre for Geriatric Psychiatry offers a wide range of outpatient services and two inpatient departments. Inpatient care includes diagnostics, acute treatment, social support and care for mental health issues in older adults. We also focus on identifying and treating any physical causes behind these conditions.
Our Support
At the Addiction Department within the Centre for Geriatric Psychiatry, we treat alcohol and medication dependencies in older adults using all available methods, including non-medical and psychotherapeutic approaches.
Our outpatient services provide support both at home and in institutions, helping individuals lead an independent life for as long as possible. The Centre also offers outpatient assessments and treatments for mental health disorders, as well as group psychotherapy for depression and addiction.
Our multidisciplinary team include experts in medicine, psychology, psychotherapy, nursing, social services and medical-therapeutic care. Each treatment is tailored to your individual needs, with additional support services available that can be found on our German page here.
