Clinic School
The clinic school supports children and adolescents during their inpatient or day-care stays at the clinic for children and adolescents.
In addition to teaching, the teachers are responsible for observing students' academic, self-management and social skills, assessing their previous schooling, advising on reintegration into external schools and organising this process.
School is a central part of daily life for children and adolescents, regardless of their situation. Being supported according to their abilities is a key part of their treatment plan during the clinic stay. Teachers collaborate closely with therapists, nursing staff and social workers. The aim is to engage them in their current situation, motivate them academically, and support their development in key skills, preparing them for reintegration into regular schools.
Classes are held five days a week, with the number of lessons ranging from 5 to 22 per week, depending on health and school level. Not all public school subjects are offered, but key subjects such as German, Mathematics, French, English, Arts and Crafts and Music are prioritised. Class sizes vary from 1 to 8 students. Teaching materials follow the standards of public schools in Basel-Stadt, with some materials from surrounding cantons also available. Patients can bring materials from their home school.
With parental consent, the key teacher will contact the student's home school. Teachers are available for any questions about the school or the patients reintegration process.
