Autism Spectrum Disorder
Do you find it difficult to socialize or communicate with other people? For people with an autism spectrum disorder , these seemingly easy actions are almost impossible. The University Psychiatric Clinics (UPK) Basel offer a consultation on autism spectrum disorder with a detailed assessment.
People with an autism spectrum disorder suffer from a pronounced contact and communication disorder. This often impairs the social behavior of those affected. They are unable to empathize with other people and cannot correctly interpret nonverbal signals. In situations with other people, they therefore often behave inappropriately.
Consultation for Autism Spectrum Disorder
During the consultation, it is to be clarified whether an autism spectrum disorder is present. There are other illnesses, which present similar symptoms as autism spectrum disorder such as ADHD. For this reason, a detailed interview is conducted to clarify whether other mental disorders are present. Two to three appointments are necessary for the assessment.
After a diagnosis with autism spectrum disorder, you can take part in specific group therapy with us. We also offer a limited number of individual therapy places. A waiting time is to be expected.
The treatment teams consist of specialists from the fields of medicine, psychology and psychotherapy, nursing, social services and specialists from the medical-therapeutic services. Each treatment is individually tailored to the patient's needs. Psychotherapy is accompanied by other treatment options.
Please ask a specialist (family doctor, psychotherapist, psychiatrist, etc.) to refer you for an assessment. If you are experiencing severe symptoms, we recommend visiting the Walk-in Clinic at the Centre for Psychiatric Health on Kornhausgasse 7.
