The Early Intervention Outpatient Clinic (BEATS) at UPK Basel focuses on the assessment and treatment of mental health risk conditions and first episodes of psychosis in young people aged 15-35. This helps prevent potential negative consequences of mental illnesses, such as chronicity, loss of employment or education, relationship impairments, social withdrawal, and suicide attempts.

Our Support Includes:

Individual Assessment and Support:

• Thorough medical, psychiatric, and psychological examinations
• Individual risk assessment for developing a psychotic disorder
• Exclusion of other brain diseases through EEG and MRI
• Detailed assessment of concentration and memory performance (neuropsychological testing)
• Two-year follow-up support by our experts
• Outpatient group therapies
• If necessary and desired, comprehensive treatment will be initiated in consultation with you - also in cooperation with your doctor.

Family Counselling

The onset of psychosis often poses a challenge for relationships in the family, in the partnership or among friends. At the BEATS early intervention outpatient clinic, we strive to minimize the associated stress by involving our patients' loved ones in the treatment process, provided the patient agrees.

• Education about the illness, treatment options, and prevention of psychotic episodes
• Individual or family discussions to improve handling of difficult situations
• Information about support options and self-help groups for relatives

The treatment team consists of specialists from the fields of medicine, psychology and social services. Each treatment is individually tailored to the patient's needs.
