ADHD

Do you have difficulty concentrating, feel inner restlessness or experience strong mood swings? These may be signs of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The University Psychiatric Clinics (UPK) Basel offer a specialist consultation for adults with suspected ADHD.

According to current research, around 3–4% of adults are affected by ADHD. Two-thirds of people diagnosed in childhood continue to experience symptoms later in life, which can often affect education, work, relationships and social interactions.

Typical symptoms:

  • Attention difficulties (easily distracted, difficulty concentrating)
  • Hyperactivity (inner restlessness, agitation, excessive talking)
  • Impulsivity (difficulty controlling impulses, “act first, think later”)
  • Mood swings (rapid changes from elevated mood to discouragement)
  • Difficulties with organisation and time management (starting several projects simultaneously but not completing them)

ADHD Specialist Consultation

If you suspect you may have ADHD, you can attend a consultation at UPK Basel, where a specialist will assess whether ADHD is present. Please note that waiting times for assessment may be several months.

A referral from a specialist (e.g. GP, psychotherapist or psychiatrist) is required. If you are experiencing significant distress, we recommend visiting the Walk-In Clinic at the Outpatient Department, Kornhausgasse 7.

ADHD-Specific Individual and Group Therapy

If ADHD is diagnosed, you may participate in a specialised group therapy programme. A limited number of individual therapy places are also available. Waiting times may apply.

Our multidisciplinary team include experts in medicine, psychology, psychotherapy, nursing, social services and medical-therapeutic care. Each treatment is tailored to your individual needs, with additional support services available that can be found on our German page here.
